The Jesuits enjoyed a Cinderella ride in their first season under Redgate, who had no previous varsity head-coaching experience, as they went 21-7 and made it to the Class LL finals, where they lost 79-53 to St. Joseph.
The Jesuits will be relying heavily on senior swingman Terry Tarpey, who has committed to William & Mary, as they graduated sharpshooters Robbie Bier and Kevin Potter.
Fairfield Ludlowe and Fairfield Warde also get under on Wednesday while South-West Conference champion Notre Dame of Fairfield opens at Bunnell on Thursday.
Fairfield Ludlowe, which went 9-12 in Brian Silvestro's first season at coach last season, is at Wilton (7 p.m.). Fairfield Warde, coming off a 7-13 campaign, hosts Trumbull at 7 p.m.

The Fairfield Legion program will have three teams: Seniors 19U, juniors 17U and a Legion Prep 16U. The 30-game season starts at the conclusion of the high school season and finishes with state playoffs in August. We will also participate in two tournaments, one in July and in second in August after the season. Many of the local top high school players and college freshmen participate in the legion program.
Fairfield Legion has continued to partner with Sacred Heart University. Our staff consists of current upperclassmen players and coaches of the University’s successful baseball team. We also include the Clubhouse staff in the developmental phase of our program with winter workouts and summer tune-up sessions.
So if you would like the experience of playing American Major League baseball rules and enjoy the situational hitting of a wood bat please join us on Jan. 28. For more info email Program General Manager Sars Ford @ coachsars@yahoo.com
