The looks for a 2-0 start of Friday when the Jesuits visit Foran in a 7 p.m.

Fairfield Prep opened its season with a 78-62 victory over Cheshire on Wednesday at Alumni Hall.

Terry Tarpey recorded 23 points, seven rebounds and four assists for the Jesuits, who are coming off a 21-7 season and reached the state finals for the first time since 1997.

Fairfield Warde and Fairfield Ludlowe also are in action on Friday after winning their season openers on Wednesday as the Mustangs visit defending FCIAC champion Bassick and Ludlowe hosts Greenwich.

Michael Wright had 14 points and 15 rebounds as Warde opened with a  55-43 win over Trumbull.

Sal Siciliano grabbed 12 rebounds and added seven points for the Mustangs, who built a 32-21 halftime lead. Matthew McTague contributed nine points for Warde.

Mark Cerulli and Tyler Bulkeley each scored 14 points as Ludlowe posted a season-opening 59-52 win at Wilton. Bassick and Greenwich each opened with wins with the Cardinals upsetting defending FCIAC runner-up Stamford, 61-50.

On the girls side, Fairfield Warde (0-3) looks for its first win of the season when it hosts Bassick.

The Mustangs are coming off a 45-24 loss at defending FCIAC Trumbull, which stifled Warde with its suffocating defense.

Ludlowe (1-2) visits Greenwich looking to build on its first win of the season, 50-49 over Wilton.

Dave Canfarotta Scored two goals Thursday, leading the Notre Dame of Fairfield boys hockey team to a 4-3 season-opening victory over Newtown.

Cam Barquinero and Greg Ferris also scored for the Lancers, who received 23 saves from Scott Kline.

Earl Coleman scored 18 points and Arkel Miles recorded a double-double with 15 and 10 rebounds as the Notre Dame of Fairfield boys basketball team defeated Bunnell 65-53 in the Newtown Tip-Off Tournament.

Dan Upchurch added 19 points for the Lancers, who play in the championship game on Friday at 7 p.m.
