Town bragging rights will be on line Tuesday when the Fairfield Ludlowe  and Fairfield Warde basketball teams clash in a doubleheader at Fairfield Warde.

The girls game starts at 6 p.m, followed by the boys contest at 7:45 p.m.

The Ludlowe girls enter the town showdown at 5-7 overall and 4-6 in the FCIAC while Warde is 7-5 and 5-5. The Mustangs have recovered from an 0-3 start to win seven of their last nine games and themselves fighting chance to make the FCIAC playoffs.

While Warde is one game out of an FCIAC playoff spot, the Mustangs can clinch a state tournament berth for the 18th consecutive season under veteran coach Dave Danko with a victory over the Falcons, who would love nothing better than to delay that celebration.

Warde has won three in a row, defeating Westhill 50-43 in its last game on Jan. 17. Fairfield Ludlowe has dropped three straight, including a 45-36 defeat to Stamford in its previous outing.

The Warde boys are 5-5 and hoping to make the state tournament after just missing last season (7-13). Ludlowe is 2-8, but beating the Mustangs certainly would be a highlight for the Falcons' season.

Records certainly don't mean much in this rivalry. Warde has won four in a row in the series, including a pair of victories last season when the Falcons had the better overall record (9-12).

Both teams are coming off losses as Warde fell to Westhill 75-70 last Thursday (although the Mustangs nearly rallied from a 20-point deficit by scoring 32 points in the fourth quarter) while Ludlowe dropped a 74-34 decision to Stamford.

Also on Tuesday, Fairfield Prep and Notre Dame of Fairfield Prep look to keep things rolling.

The 9-2 Jesuits, who have reeled off four straight victories, host Hamden at Alumni Hall (7 p.m.) while Notre Dame (7-4) seeks a third straight win at home against Newtown (7 p.m.).
