The wrestling team dominated the 2012 Warde Invitational Saturday, finishing 100 points ahead of runner-up Mahopac N.Y., to win the event for the fourth straight year.

Warde's performance was highlighted by eight finalists and three champions: Casey Stopa, 145; Thomas Anania; 160 and Mike Money, heavyweight.

Overall, the Mustangs placed 14 wrestlers among the top four in their respective weight classes. 

At 106, Jack Anderson ran into a tough field, placing sixth. At 113, Dan Ebert continued a strong freshman season with a win in the consolation finals, placing fifth.

At 120, Warde finished third and fourth with Dylan Bender winning a tight match against teammate Isaiah Nelson, 3-0 (Warde entered an A and B team). At 126, Junior Dany Almeida lost a tough match in the semis but wrestled back strong. Almeia finished third, defeating top seed Henry Wales of Fairfield Ludlowe, 8-1.

Philip Neamonitis finished sixth at 132 and teammate Pharoah Eaton finished second, losing a decision to Stamford's Ben Pierre Saint, the tournament's most outstanding wrestler, 11-3. 

At 145, Warde crowned its first champion as Casey Stopa pinned a game Mauricio Xocoy from Fairfield Ludlowe.  Kevin Kollar finished second at 152 after a strong performance. Warde dominated the field at 160, placing two in the finals with Thomas Anania securing a close victory over Warde B teammate Joey Murator.

Colin Ventura lost a heartbreaker at 170 in overtime to finish fourth. At 182, James Heinzman had a strong tournament, but fell short in the finals, 2-1, to Shane Dempsey of Fairfield Prep.

Joey Marx had a great tournament, wrestling back to finish third after losing to a top-ranked wrestler from New York.

At 220, David Wolff showed great heart and determination with a grueling victory for third.

Finally, in a highly anticipated match-up of undefeated Warde wrestlers, Money, a senior, pinned sophomore Amed Hourani after a period of battling for position.  

Overall, the Mustangs are 7-1 and ranked sixth in the state.

Connor Henry scored two goals and Patrick Hayes and David White each added one as the top-ranked defeated Notre Dame of West Haven 4-3 on Saturday at the Wonderland of Ice.

The Jesuits improved to 6-2 (5-0 against state competition) while handing the Green Knights (7-1) their first loss of the season.

Henry appeared to put away the game as his second goal gave the Jesuits a 4-1 lead in the third period. But Fairfield Prep had to fight off a late challenge as Notre Dame of West Haven scored twice in the final four minutes.

Cretella Colby scored with 3:57 remaining and William Vizzo made it a one-goal game with 13 seconds left.

Riley Wikman made 22 saves for Fairfield Prep and Luciano Amatruda stopped 29 shots for Notre Dame of West Haven.

Fairfield Prep's Matt Sather won his 199th career game as the Jesuits coach.  Fairfield Prep is back in action on Wednesday against Amity at the Wonderland of Ice.

Jack Knowlton, Trent Bergin, Branden Hathaway and Nick Bruno scored goals Saturday to lead the Darien boys hockey team to a 4-2 victory over Notre Dame of Fairfield.

Hunt Bartram made 26 saves for Darien, which improved to 3-3 and completed a sweep of the home-and-home series. The Blue Wave blanked Notre Dame of Fairfield 3-0 on Thursday at the Milford Ice Pavilion.

Colin Rush and Erik Laaksonen scored for the Lancers, who dropped to 2-5. Mike Samuelnas made 26 saves for Notre Dame.

Terry Tarpey scored 19 points as the Fairfield Prep basketball team got back on track with a 74-34 dubbing of Guilford on Friday.

The Jesuits rebounded from a 60-44 loss to Xavier to improve to 6-2. Guilford dropped to 2-5.

Ryan Blake scored 11 points while Mike Matera and freshman Thomas Nolan added nine apiece for the Jesuits.

Fairfield Prep settled the game early, jumping out to a 20-11 lead after the first quarter. The Jesuits then outscored the Indians 15-2 in the second period to build a 35-13 lead at the intermission.

Mark Cerulli scored 12 points and David Kingsley added nine points and 10 rebounds as the Fairfield Ludlowe boys basketball team posted a 46-41 victory over Staples.

The Falcons converted 17-of-23 free throws to snap a five-game losing streak and improve to 2-5.

Staples was only 4-of-10 from the line. The Wreckers have lost three of four and dropped to 2-4.

Mike Argosh scored 15 points, including four 3-pointers, to lead the Wreckers, while James Frusciante added eight points.

Brianna Curran scored 14 points as the Fairfield Ludlowe girls basketball team posted a 55-40 victory over Staples.

Curran was one of four players in double figures for the Falcons. Pauline Blatt had 13 points and Sara Nesi and Katherine Madher chipped in with 10 apiece.

Ludlowe improved to 5-4 while Staple dropped its second straight and fell to 5-3.

Nikki Bukovsky scored 12 points to the lead the Wreckers. Jess Coelho and Erica Stein each added nine.

Fairfield Ludlowe opened a 13-7 lead after the first quarter and slowly extended its margin.

Casey Smith had 21 points Friday as the Danbury girls basketball team remained undefeated with a 65-41 win over over Fairfield Warde.

Rebecca Gartner scored 14 points and Rachel Gartner added 13 for the Hatters, who improved to 8-0.

Jamera Fountain was the only player in double figures for Warde with 10 points.

The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Mustangs, who dropped to 4-5. Danbury led 32-19 at halftime.

Bianka Bell scored 17 points as the Notre Dame of Fairfield girls basketball team climbed over .500 with a 44-41 victory over Barlow.

Aly Furgiuele added 11 points for the Lancers, who improved to 4-3.

Notre Dame trailed 32-29 after three quarters but outscored the Falcons 15-9 over the final eight minutes to earn the win.

Brittney Dumas scored 10 points and Drew Barto added 15 for Barlow, which dropped to 5-4.
