-- Joe Della Vecchia and Tyler Matakevich, who played on two state championship teams at St. Joseph, each turned in dominating performances one final time before they go their separate ways in the fall.

Della Vecchia passed for four touchdowns and more than 300 yards Saturday as the Fairfield County All-Stars defeated New Haven County 34-14 in the 15th annual Hall of Fame Classic at Ken Strong Stadium.

Matakevich scored three touchdowns for Fairfield Country, which snapped a two-game losing streak and cut NewHaven's lead in the series to 10-5.

Six St. Joseph players were on the roster for the Fairfield County team, which was coached for St. Joseph's Joe Della Vecchia, the father of the quarterback.

The younger Della Vecchia, who is headed to Stonehill College, was named the offensive MVP for Fairfield County while Matakevich, who will enroll at Milford Academy, was Fairfield's defensive MVP.

New Haven grabbed a 7-0 lead on Tucker Schumitz's 32-yard pass to Sean Goldrich in the first quarter, but Fairfield scored the next four touchdowns with Della Vecchia and Matakevich hooking up three times for scores.
