The Fairfield junior American Legion team fell one game short of its goal to make the state tournament.
Fairfield (14-13) went into the weekend needing to win three of its final five games to get to the required 15 wins. The team lost to Ridgefield on Friday, then split a pair of doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday.

Fairfield kept alive its hopes with a 9-2 win over Norwalk on Sunday morning, but was eliminated following a 5-2 loss to Norwalk in the afternoon.
Despite not getting into postseason play, Fairfield continues to make significant strides after going 0-25 last season. The improved to 12-14 last year and secured a winning season this summer.

-- Fairfield American won the 11-year-old District Two championship on Saturday with a wild 18-17 victory over Fairfield National at Unity Park in Trumbull.
Fairfield American twice rallied from six-run deficits, including a 15-9 hole, to win capture the title and advance to the sectionals.
Fairfield National jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the top of the first, only to have Fairfield American answer with five runs in the bottom of the inning. It was 8-8 after two frames.
The sectionals will be played at Blackham School in Bridgeport, beginning on Wednesday.
-- Fairfield defeated Mystic 6-2 Sunday night in Danbury to complete a two-game sweep of the junior softball state finals.
Fairfied, which won a state championship for the first time in the team's history, now advances to the Eastern Regionals in Bristol. This marks the first time that a regional championship will take place at this level.
Fairfield won the opening game of the series 3-2 on Saturday.
On Sunday, Fairfield's Alice Nelson allowed only four hits over six innings.
-- Fairfield was eliminated from the 13-year-old Babe Ruth tournament following a 10-4 loss to New London in Ridgefield on Sunday. Fairfield dropped its tournament opener to Darien 10-0 on Saturday.
-- After a 2-0 start in pool play, the Fairfield girls softball 9/10-year old All-Star team faced Seymour on Sunday. The squad concludes pool play on Monday against North Branford at Bridgeport's Ellsworth Park at 5:30 p.m.
