Wildcats Sixth Grade Red Makes it 3-0 With Third Shutout Victory

The Wildcats Red sixth grade team once again did not allow a touchdown, defeating a tough Darien Wave team 7-0 in their home opener at Ludlowe High School. After two terrific games where they shut out both teams with a combined score of 33-0, the Wildcats have now gone three games without allowing a point, and have outscored their opponents 40-0.

The stifling defense continues to be lead by a defensive line of AJ Valus, Clay Zachery, Jack Curtis, Josh Evans and John Blumenthal, who as a unit continue to get behind the line of scrimmage and force their opponents to lose yardage.

It seemed from the line of scrimmage the Wildcats controlled the ball for most of the night with some great pass plays from quarterback Matt Cerminaro, who aired one pass for a 30-yard TD to a stretching Everett Metchick, for the only score of the game.

As Darien tried to force plays in several instances, the Wildcats' defense continued to dominate. Everett Metchick, who played both sides of the ball well, also intercepted a pass and returned it deep into Darien territory late in the fourth quarter to help seal the win for the Wildcats.

The Wildcats play next Saturday against New Canaan at Dunning Field.

Fifth Grade Wildcats Take Down Undefeated Wilton Blue

The Fifth Grade Wildcats held on for a 6-0 win over Wilton Blue on Sunday.

The Wilton Blue team came into the contest with an undefeated record, having shut out each of its first two opponents and scoring 20 or more points in both.

The first half pitted two extremely good defenses against one another, with key tackles by Wildcats defensive end Zach Iannucci, linebackers Joe Gijnaj, Will Cohen, Sean Fuller, Brendan Larsen Jack Howard, and lineman Dylan Beck . With just a few seconds left in the first half, Wilton made it to Fairfield's 2-yard line, but was stymied as the clock ran out.

The second half saw both teams unrelenting in their defense until early in the fourth quarter, when Jack Owens broke through the defensive line, thanks to the excellent blocking of offensive linemen Ryan Hummerstone, Daniel Mundle, Jack Howard, Justin Coudert and DJ Meyer, and headed down the sideline.

What would have been a 20-yard carry turned into a touchdown after an excellent downfield block by wide receiver Aidan Wykoff, who also had two receptions on the day from quarterback David Summers. The extra point attempt failed.

The subsequent drives by both teams failed to gain much momentum, and with 24 seconds left on the clock, Jack Owens intercepted a long pass attempt by the Wilton quarterback, ensuring the Wildcats' victory. The fifth grade Wildcats now have a 2-1 record.

Wildcats Third Grade Comes Up Short Against New Canaan

The Wildcats third grade Red team lost a hard-fought game 7-0 against New Canaan Bantam Black on Saturday.

Defensive standouts for the game were tackle Jack Mckenna with eight solo tackles, guard James Cullinan, linebacker Jack Gremse and safety Kevin Donahue.

After giving up a touchdown in the second quarter, the Wildcats blanked New Canaan for the rest of the game. On offense, running back Matthew Burger and Harry Chandler powered for some hard fought yardage.

The Wildcats look to rebound against the Wilton Bantam Blue third graders this Sunday at 8 a.m. at Warde High School.

Darien 14, Wildcats Eighth Grade Blue 7

In a battle similar to week one, the Wildcats eighth grade Blue team fought another one that came down to the last two minutes.

Darien's offense executed well, but a Wildcats' defense,  led by defensive tackle/defensive end Connor Reilly and outside linebacker Spencer Foley, limited Darien in the air as well as on the ground.

As Darien took the lead 7-0, so it remained for the first half. Versatile players Conor Gallagher and R.J. Bebey took the offense to move the chains early and often, connecting on multiple passes.

The Wildcats closed the first half behind 7-0 and came out looking to dominate. While it appeared that some of Darien's players had the weight up front, the Wildcats front five, made up of Chase Lind, Lee Stenild-Johansen, Michael Coudert, Devin Dyer and Mark Schwartz, did not allow a sack the enter game.

The Wildcats responded with a catch up the middle by R.J. Bebey, which would be followed by a one-point conversion by Chris Howell. The Wildcats gave up a final score before trying to rally back under two minutes. Darien sealed the victory with an interception with under 1 1/2 minutes remaining.

Fairfield Wildcats 7th Grade Blue Team Defeats Wilton 14-7

The Wildcats seventh grade Blue team hosted the Wilton White squad at Ludlowe on Sunday.

After giving up a first-quarter touchdown, the defense didn't surrender another point. Tim Kane was outstanding at defensive end while Ethan Burger, Tyler Petry and Gavin Hass led the Wildcats in tackles.

Ross Gallace provided all of the points for the Wildcats. At the end of the first half, Gallace reurned an interception for a touchdown and ran for a two-point conversion.

In the second half, Gallace ran for his second touchdown. Burger gained multiple first downs with runs up the middle. Robbie Imbrogno recovered a fumble in the fourth quarter to finish off Wilton.
