On the day Steve Hetherman was officially named the head coach of the Notre Dame of Fairfield boys hockey team, the Lancers clinched a state tournament berth in dramatic fashion.
Erik Laaksonen scored under three minutes into overtime Thursday as Notre Dame rallied for a 4-3 victory over South Windsor at the Milford Ice Pavilion.
That goal came after Dave Canfarotta scored with just 42 seconds left in regulation to force overtime as the Lancers improved to 8-9. Notre Dame improved to 5-2 since Hetherman took over following the resignation of Marty Roos last month.
