Fairfield Wildcats hold Westport scoreless

Special Teams helped get the Wildcats on the board early after Jake Hios and John Blumenthal recovered a Westport fumble that left the Cats on the Westport 15 yard line.  Capitalizing on the terrific field position, Jack Curtis, protected by a strong offensive line led by Josh Evans and Chris Nielsen, barreled his way into the end zone for a 6–0 early lead.

In the second quarter, Jack Curtis reprised his earlier performance – darting through a big hole on his way to an impressive 70-yard touchdown. Extra points eluded the Wildcats yet again, but their lead widened to 12-0.

The Cats continued to build on the momentum of their running game in the fourth quarter by turning to the capable legs of Timmy Jacobi for their third and final TD of the day.

Keeping Westport’s end zone abandoned for the duration was the Cats’ impenetrable defense led by Joey Turner, Clay Zachery, Cam Pickering, Wil Parisi, Justin Keith and Alexey Linsenmeyer. Kris Gjnaj was also strong on pass defense.

The Wildcats seventh grade blue team traveled to Tiger Hollow Field in Ridgefield this week to take on a tough Ridgefield Orange. Unfortunate mistakes, however, led to a fumble and interception in the second quarter giving Ridgefield two scores.

The Fairfield offense was led by the power running of Jaden Sneed and Kevin Quinn.  PJ Egan had another strong game at quarterback rushing for 50 yards and completing six passes for over 100 yards.

The defense played very well and did not allow a Ridgefield first down in the second half.  Sneed led the defense with eight tackles and a forced fumble which he almost returned for a touchdown late in the game.

Fairfield Blue will next play at home against New Canaan Red at noon at Fairfield Warde.

6th grade fall at Westport

The sixth grade Wildcats fell 21-6 on the road to Westport North on Sunday. Having trouble finding an offensive groove in the game, the Wildcats had a flash of brilliance on their lone score, as quarterback Joey Gulbin showed off his strong arm on a deep out that wide receiver Alex Farkas caught in stride, blazing down the sideline for a 70-yard score.

The team held tough on defense with big tackles by Griffin Gallati, Henry Bosken and Ryan Janz as well as a timely fumble recovery by Deaglan O'Donnell.

The Wildcats team will play its first home game this Sunday at 10:30 a.m. against Ridgefield Black at Warde.

5th grade takes down Darien

The 5th Grade Wildcats improved to 2-1 with an 8-0 win at Darien on Saturday. Having only let up only six points all season, Fairfield's dominant defense came to play. Will Gallagher's first quarter fumble recovery started things off for Fairfield.  RJ Ihlefeld's caused a fourth quarter fumble, which was recovered by Jack Gremse.  Aidan Casey's great open field tackle saved a late fourth quarter touchdown.

John Summers and Jimmy Cullinan anchored the interior offensive line and set the tone all day.  Running backs Jake Fratarcangeli and Brendan Howard powered their way by running hard and breaking tackles.  The play of the game on offense was a 54 yard hitch-and-go pass between quarterback Andrew Conklin and receiver Jack Morrison for the game's only touchdown.  The two-point conversion to Dylan Igram was good.

Fairfield will next play on Saturday at Ludlowe High School.

4th grade gets win against Westport

Westport started the game on offense in what consume almost the entire first half. Westport would push for every yard until they successfully scored to take a 7-0 lead. The Wildcats offense, led by Karl Schmidt, used Andre Mead and Denholm Feldman to move the ball. Harrison Keith scored to make the game 7-6 at the half.

Wildcats started the second half with the ball and relied on Keith to get the wheels going, leading to another Wildcat score. The defense stood out with plays from players like Casey Woodfine, Cole Curtin, Jack Reilling and Ryan Voitas.

Westport scored one more time, but was immediately followed by a Wildcats touchdown closing the game with an 18-13 Fairfield win.
