Fairfield's Chu to Become Four-Time Olympian

Olympic veteran and Fairfield native Julie Chu will once again represent the red, white and blue when the U.S. Women’s Hockey Team takes the ice next month in the Sochi Winter Olympics.

Chu, a three-time Olympian, has captured three medals, including silver in 2002 and 2010.

The highly decorated star recently completed her third season with the Montreal Stars of the Canadian Women’s Hockey League, capturing back-to-back CWHL championships in 2011 and 2012, according to USA Hockey. She is also serving as an assistant coach for the Union College women’s hockey team.

Chu attended Choate Rosemary Hall in Wallingford, leading her team to the 1999 New England Prep School Athletic Council Championship. She went on to become a three-time All-American and the all-time assists leader at Harvard University. Chu was inducted into the Connecticut Hockey Hall of Fame in 2012, according to USA Hockey.

The women’s hockey portion of the winter games will kick off on Feb. 8 with eight nations competing for Olympic gold. USA has been grouped with rival Canada, Switzerland and Finland.
