Gutierrez's Home Run Gives Gives Fairfield American 11-Year-Olds State Title

Defeated South Windsor, 6-5, on Sunday night to win the crown

The Fairfield American 11-year-old All-Stars made it a trifecta for the town, and they did it in highly dramatic fashion.  

Sean Gutierrez hit a two-out, walk-off  solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning Sunday night, as Fairfield American defeated South Windsor National, 6-5, in New London to capture the Connecticut state championsip.

Fairfield American swept the best-of three series, winning the opener,  12-1,  on Saturday.

In the process, it became the third Fairfield American team to win a state title this summer, joining the 10-year-olds and 12-year-olds.

In Saturday's game, Brendan Bucher hit a three-run triple to break open the game in the third inning, when Fairfield American scored seven of its 12 runs.

Connor Lynch, Aidan Kudzy and Eddy Schwartz each had two  RBI for the winners.

Sunday's contest was a much closer game was a much closer game, with Fairfield American  jumping out to a quick two-run lead when Eddy Schwartz hit a blast over the snack shack in deep left-center.

South Windsor went ahead with three runs in the top of the second, and there were two more changes. The contest was tied, 5-5, heading to the bottom of the sixth.

The three Fairfield American teams are now a combined 43-1 in the postseason, with the 11-year-olds finishing the year with a 13-0 mark .
