Ludlowe To Face Greenwich in FCIAC Baseball Championship

Falcons are seeking first FCIAC baseball title for any Fairfield school

Fairfield Ludlowe will be looking to make history Thursday night when it takes on Greenwich in the FCIAC baseball championship at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard.

The Falcons hope to become the first high school from Fairfield to ever win a FCIAC baseball title. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

Ludlowe (17-5) enters the game riding a seven-game winning streak, having beaten No. 4 seed Wilton, 12-7, and No. 8 seed Westhill, 6-3, in the FCIAC tournament.

"I just hope my boys can go out and play the way they are capable of playing," Ludlowe coack Keith O'Rourke said. "I feel confident that they'll be able to that."

Standing in their way is a program steeped in tradition. Greenwich, the only one of the top four seeds not to lose in the quarterfinals, has won seven FCIAC baseball crowns, including four tournament championships.

Ironically, the second-seeded Cardinals won their last title in 2004, the only year a Fairfield school ever reached the finals. The Fairfield Mustangs played in the championship game that spring before the school split into Ludlowe and Warde High Schools.

Greenwich reached this year's final with a 7-1 win over No. 7 Ridgefield and a 13-4 romp over No. 6 St, Joseph.

The Cardinals and Falcons played a tight game during the regular season, with Greenwich posting a 4-2 win in eight innings at Kiwanis Field.
