Arkel Miles scores 24 points for Lancers, who win their 10th straight game

Arkel Miles scored 24 points and grabbed 10 rebounds Friday as the Notre Dame of Fairfield boys basketball team routed New Fairfield 85-55 for its 10th straight victory.

The defending SWC champions, who improved to 15-4 and 11-2, are battling Kolbe Cathedral and Bunnell for the No. 2 seed in the league playoffs behind Immaculate.

Earl Coleman scored 20 points and Dan Upchurch added 16 for the Lancers, who opened a 21-12 lead after the first quarter, then extended their advantage to 46-34 at the half.

Notre Dame then blitzed New Fairfield with a 20-2 burst in the third quarter to take a 66-36 lead into the final period. Upchurch also handed out eight assists.

Michael Phillips scored 19 points to lead the Rebels, who concluded their season with a 6-14 record.
