Notre Dame-Fairfield Boys Basketball Advances In SWC Playoffs

Defending champion Lancers rout Weston 64-45 to reach semifinals

Defending champion Notre Dame of Fairfield rolled in its South-West Conference playoff opener Saturday, routing No. 6 Weston 64-45 in the first of four quarterfinal games at Masuk.

It was the 12th straight win for the Lancers, who improved to 17-4. The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for Weston, which dropped to 12-9.

Notre Dame's path to another title may have gotten a bit easier as the Lancers will face No. 7 seed Masuk in the semifinals on Tuesday.

Masuk (10-11) upset No. 2 seed Kolbe Cathedral, the last team to beat Notre Dame,  61-59, in Saturday's second quarterfinal.

Danny Upchurch scored 23 points and Arkel Miles added 11 points and 20 rebounds for Notre Dame, which built a 13-5 lead after the first quarter.  The Lancers then extended it to 28-15 at the half.

Earl Coleman added 14 points, five assists and four steals for Notre Dame, which held a 42-30 lead after the third quarter.

Max Molinsky and Evan Blitzer each scored 13 points lead the Trojans, who now prepare for the state tournament.  Lyle Mitchell had 16 rebounds for Weston.
