Notre Dame-Fairfield Routs Barlow 64-39 Without Two Players

Starter Tre McPherson and freshman Marcus Blackwell were dismissed from the team for separate incidents

After losing two players for disciplinary reasons, the Notre Dame of Fairfield boys basketball squad went out and routed Barlow 64-39 on Friday to snap a two-game losing streak.

The Connecticut Post reported Friday that starterTre McPherson was dismissed from the team and that freshman Marcus Blackwell was expelled from Notre Dame for separate incidents.

Notre Dame athletic director Rob Bleggi told the newspaper that the players were permanently removed from the squad because of a "student matter."

McPherson was involved in a number of YouTube videos in which he directed derogatory and profane comments toward the school.

Citing an unnamed source, the Post reported that McPherson's involvement in the videos played a part in his dismissal from the team.

According to the Post, Blackwell has withdrawn from school and McPherson is serving a suspension.

Donte Peeler scored 17 points on Friday for the Lancers, who dressed only nine players.

He was one of four players in double figures as Danny Upchurch added 13 Arkel Miles 12 and C.J. Davison 11.

Perhaps unnerved by the events of the day, Notre Dame fell behind 19-9 after the first quarter.

But the Lancers responded in the second quarter, outscoring the Falcons 18-2 to take a 27-21 halftime lead.  Notre Dame surrendered only 20 points over the final three periods.
