State and local officials took time at Wednesday's Board of Selectmen meeting to honor five of Fairfield's decorated youth baseball and softball teams.

Fairfield American, the New England champions and Little League World Series contenders, were up first, followed by the Little League Girls Softball 12-year-olds, the 2012 New England champions and the Fairfield National 9 and 10-year-old Little Leaguers, this year's District 2 champions.

Two teams were not present at the meeting -- the Little League Girls Softball Junior team (Section 1 champions) and the Fairfield National 11-year-old team (state champions).

Each player received a certificate of recognition from the Board of Selectmen on behalf of the town. Each team was presented with a citation from U.S. Congressman Jim Himes' office.

"You do a great job representing our community," State Rep. Tony Hwang (R-134) said to the teams. "I am thrilled to have teams recognized -- no matter how talented each kid is, you learn to win and lose as a team."
