Prep Cross Country Team Will Be Led By Connor Rog

Rog won the CIAC Class LL meet last season as a sophomore

Robert Ford Jr, who is beginning his 25th season as Fairfield Prep's cross country coach, should have another deep and talented squad, as the Jesuits return most of their runners from last year.

Leading the way will be Connor Rog, who won the CIAC Class LL title as a sophomore in 2009 and finished 29th in this year's Fairfield Half Marathon.

Also back from last year's 10-2 team are seniors Tyler Agostino and Brian Bennett along with juniors Patrick Corona, Billy Schloth, Michael Whelan and Rob Salandra.

The only runners lost due to graduation were Brendan McLeod and William Harkawik.

With a career record of 195-55, Ford should earn his 200th victory this fall. Fairfield Prep's first meet is against  Shelton on September 21.

After finished eighth in the Class LL meet, Fairfield Prep placed 17th in the state open event despite missing three of seven starters who were sick with the flu.

In the Class LL race, Rog surprised favorite Sean Mueller of Cheshire with a surge at the end to win by several seconds. Rog earned all-Southern Connecticut Conference, all-Class LL, all-state, and all-New England honors.
