In Fairfield, 'It's Heart Attack Snow' [Updated]

The snow is heavy and roads are slick. But it sure does look nice out, right?

Update:

The snow continues to fall in Fairfield, and it's creating some back-breaking work for those who have to dig out, and leading to some travel issues, too.

As of about 10:30 a.m., three accidents in town had been reported as road conditions deteriorate. The accidents — none of which had reported injuries, according to police — took place near the intersection of Stillson Road and Mill Plain Road, in the 1500 block on Black Rock Turnpike, and near Sturges and Bronson roads.

This morning the district called off school due to the storm. Traffic is lighter than normal on local roads, but people are still out and about.

One man was pushing two of his children in a stroller along Reef Road, while a third child walked alongside him. The snow-covered sidewalks were a little more difficult to navigate than he expected.

Up the street, firefighters shoveled the sidewalks outside the department headquarters at Station 1. "It's heart attack snow," one firefighter said.

Our original report follows:

Punxsutawney Phil predicted more winter Sunday and that's exactly what we'll see this week, beginning with snow on Monday.

The storm could bring anywhere between 3 inches and 7 inches along the coast, according to the National Weather Service (NWS), which issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook ahead of the storm.

The precipitation will start before dawn Monday in the form of rain, sleet and snow. By 4 a.m., it will likely just be snow coming down and it will stay that way till about 2 p.m., the NWS predicts.

Tuesday will bring mostly sunny skies, and then there's a chance for another wintry mix Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.
