Fairfield Woods Middle School, built in 1954, was slated in March 2010 to undergo an expansion and renovation that includes the construction of 14 additional classrooms (10 full-sized classrooms and four 3/4-sized classrooms), construction of an auxiliary gymnasium, expansion of the school cafeteria and bringing the school into compliance with current building codes.

Fairfield Woods is the smallest of the town's three public middle schools and is the only middle school without an auditorium. Fairfield Woods has a bricks-and-mortar capacity of 650 students and its enrollment is 674 students (March 2010 figure.) The expansion project is designed to increase Fairfield Woods Middle School's capacity to 840 students.

Enrollment at Fairfield Woods Middle School was projected on Nov. 30, 2009 to peak at 683 students in 2011-12 and to drop slightly to 680 students in 2014-15. Those figures, however, assume the Board of Education does not address overcrowding in the town's other two public middle schools by changing the "feeder pattern" that identifies where elementary school children go to middle school or redistricting.

Students who graduate from Fairfield Woods Middle School attend Fairfield Warde High School.

Fairfield Woods Middle School's principal is Greg Hatzis, and the school's mascot is the wildcat.
