Lake Mohegan, located at 960 Morehouse Highway, is one of six beaches in town and the only public beach on a freshwater lake.

The beach at Lake Mohegan, which includes an open-air picnic/shade pavilion, sprinkler park and playground, is adjacent to 170 acres of town-owned open space that is a popular venue for hiking, dog walking and fishing.

There is no charge to park at Lake Mohegan, but use of the beach, sprinkler park, concession stand, bathroom facilities and playground requires a seasonal pass.

The Parks and Recreation Department issued the following news release pertaining to 2011 rates:

Individual ID’s with the Pass holders’ picture will now be used for entrance into the facility. A Season Pass may be purchased for a fee of $10 per permanent resident and $20 per non-resident. Children 2 and under get in for free. Residents who are at least 62 years old also get in for free by showing a driver's license at the gate. They may also purchase Season Passes for their non-resident grandchildren at the resident rate of $10 per child under 18 years of age.

Due to the change, 2010 Mohegan Passes will not be able to be renewed online and since they are picture ID's, everyone must register for a Season Pass at the Parks and Recreation Department, 75 Mill Plain Road. Passes for the 2011 season are currently on sale and will not be sold at the Lake Mohegan gate.

Rec officials advise people to obtain passes before the Memorial Day rush and that those holding 2010 Golf ID's can call 203-256-3191 to add a Lake Mohegan membership.

Lake Mohegan Daily Rates
Adult Weekday (ages 18 +)
Child Weekday (ages 3-17)
Adult Weekend & Holiday
Child Weekend & Holiday
Infants - 2 yrs

Resident
$8
$4
$10
$6
No Charge

Non-Resident
$15
$8
$18
$12
No Charge

Lake Mohegan has six lifeguards during peak times in the summer.

Dogs, accompanied by their owners, are allowed on the beach from Oct. 1 to March 31.
