<p>The Town Clerk's Office records land records and ensures the proper encumbrances of property; provides chronological and alphabetical indexes to documents, maps, permits and town sewer and property liens; issues, records and maintains birth, marriage and death certificates, liquor permits, notary public certificates, hunting and fishing licenses, trade name certificates, burial permits and dog licenses; publishes notices of town meetings; compiles, copies and mails the agenda and background material for monthly meetings of the Representative Town Meeting to 50 RTM members; records votes of the RTM; ensures the Code Book of Town Laws and the Boards & Commissions Book are up to date; issues absentee ballots and petitions for primaries and referendums; and is the local source for campaign finance records.</p>
<p>The Town Clerk's Office also provides information to residents about government policy, structure and election laws.</p> <p>The Town Clerk's Office's budget in 2009-10 is $594,947, and revenue received by the office and deposited in the town's general fund totaled $2.5 million in 2007-08.</p> <p>The Town Clerk is an elected position and subject to re-election every four years. The Town Clerk's salary in 2009-10 is $88,620.</p> <p>The Town Clerk's Office is located on the first floor of Old Town Hall, 611 Old Post Road.</p>
