Fairfield College Preparatory School opened in 1942 after the Society of Jesus asked permission of the bishop of…More Hartford to open a Catholic college preparatory school for boys in Connecticut. The bishop agreed to the Jesuits' request and also agreed, at a later date, to establish a college that was linked to the prep school. That college, Fairfield University, opened its doors in 1946.
Fairfield Prep and Fairfield University share a 204-acre campus on North Benson Road in Fairfield. Fairfield Prep consists of four interconnected buildings: Berchmans Hall, Xavier Hall and Pedro Arrupe Hall, where students attend classes, and the Brissette Athletic Center. Prep students, however, also have access to the resources and facilities at Fairfield University.
About 925 students attend Fairfield Prep from 51 towns in Connecticut. Most of the students live in Bridgeport, Trumbull, Stratford, Norwalk and Fairfield. Tuition at Fairfield Prep in 2009-10 was $14,985, and financial aid is available.
