Black Rock Branch Library is a full service facility providing a wide range of library services to the diverse and vibrant community in the Black Rock section of Bridgeport, CT. First opened in 1932 as a Carnegie library, the Black Rock Branch has recently undergone major renovations. Reopened in July of 2009, the library has been expanded from its original 6,000 square feet to 11,000 square feet. Additionally, the entire facility has been modernized, with the installation of 12 public access computers, free Wi-Fi throughout the building and the construction of two large program rooms and a smaller conference room.

Since reopening, the library has become a hub for the community. Circulation of all materials and library card registration has been very high. Children, teens and adults are now making a visit to the library a regular, often times daily, part of their lives.

In addition to providing books, AV materials and computer access and free Wi Fi. The Black Rock Branch also offers a wide range of programs for all ages. Regular story hours and class visits for children, ESL classes for Spanish speakers and Medicare workshops for seniors are just a few examples of programs recently held at the library. There are also regular “Meet the Author” programs, art exhibits featuring local artists and community forums covering a wide range of topics. All of these programs are well attended and enthusiastically received by the community.
