Soundwaves -- The Lions Gate Trio in Concert at the Fairfield Public Library

The Fairfield Public Library will host its internationally acclaimed trio in residence, “The Lions Gate Trio,” for a chamber music concert on Sunday, September 8 at 3:00 pm.  The trio, pianist Florence Millet, violinist Katie Lansdale and cellist Darrett Adkins, will perform two major works from the early Romantic period: the monumental Trio in E-flat Major by Franz Schubert and Beethoven’s “Ghost” Trio, Opus 70, no. 1.  Peter Alexander, the Trio’s musical director, will introduce the program with insights into the composers and the pieces.  This concert will be held in the Memorial Room of the Main Library, 1080 Old Post Road.

The Lions Gate Trio enjoys a combination of performing, recording, and working with young musicians in educational settings. Originally founded with cellist Scott Kluksdahl, Darrett Adkins joined Millet and Lansdale in 2011.  Winners of the Koussevitsky Award for recording, the Trio has been lauded by the press for their CDs. They have recorded for Triton and Centaur labels featuring new American trios, duo and trio music of French composer Nicolas Bacri, and the complete trios of Robert Schumann.  They have performed in Germany, France, Belgium, Finland, and most of the eastern United States.  With individual faculty positions in Cologne, New York and Hartford, the Trio has served residencies at Tanglewood, Yale University and the University of Pittsburgh, and is currently the trio in residence in Connecticut at both the Hartt School (University of Hartford) and the Fairfield Public Library.

The Library is fortunate to host this accomplished chamber music trio each spring and fall through the generosity of the Friends of the Fairfield Public Library.  The Friends have graciously underwritten the Soundwaves concerts each year, as well as the reception that follows, providing an opportunity to meet the artists and enjoy some light refreshments.
