'Axe the Gas Tax' Today with Sen. McKinney

Join State Sen. John McKinney today to protest Connecticut's gas tax hike, scheduled to take effect July 1.

The tax would raise gas prices by about 4 cents per gallon, according to a statement by McKinney.

"The tax set to increase is a hidden state tax on gasoline that you pay above and beyond the state (25 cents) and federal (18.4 cents) per-gallon taxes. This tax is a percentage of the wholesale price of gasoline and is scheduled to increase 16 percent on July 1," according to McKinney.

The senator will be at the Citgo gas station at 2047 Post Road in Fairfield from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. to collect signatures for a petition against the increase.

Or, you can head to www.axethegastaxct.com and sign the petition online. As of noon Monday, the petition had 6,378 signatures.
