She began her career in Corporate Finance and went on to manage Sales teams using complex financial instruments to create client solutions for both risk management and investment purposes. Success depended on thorough analysis and the ability to work collaboratively with multiple parties with differing concerns; but always with the client’s objectives at heart.

Liu-McCormack left her career in finance last year to focus on family and her children’s education. Since moving to Fairfield, she has been active in the PTA, chairing and volunteering for multiple programs/events. She co-created the Young Entrepreneurs Above and Beyond after school program in cooperation with parents, teachers, and administrators at her children’s school.

Elementary students were given the opportunity to design, produce, market, price and sell products for profit. One such product was a Holiday Music CD which students performed, edited and packaged.

“We took an idea, went through all the steps to make it real and ended with money earned and then taxed," Liu-McCormack said.

Students then were able to decide how they would use the proceeds -- save, spend, or gift.

“I wanted them to learn about taking initiative; about trying and struggling; but most importantly about how to pick themselves up to try again until they got it done right," Liu-McCormack said. "This mindset is what it takes to succeed. ”

As an involved parent with a solid financial background and a strong commitment to education, Liu-McCormack will bring a unique set of skills to the Fairfield Board of Education as well as a fresh perspective. She supports a platform of "educational excellence through smarter spending."
