GreenTowns Supports the Country's Path Towards Resiliency

In 2007, I launched Conscious Decisions, LLC, with a mission to education people, throughout the country on the positive effect we could collectively have by making easy, healthy and environmentally friendly choices throughout the course of a typical day. In looking for the right online platform to broadcast this message, I came across the website, AmericanTowns.com. With 15,000 individual community pages, focused on local events, and community organizations, it looked to be the perfect design to reach people in towns across America. Immediately, I went to locate their contact information and was absolutely stunned to discover that AmericanTowns.com was headquartered in Fairfield, CT - less than five miles from where I lived.

I felt compelled to reach out to the leadership of AmericanTowns. I received a quick and friendly reply to an introductory e-mail that I sent to the Fairfield office. I was invited to meet with the co-president and shared with him my vision of educating people throughout the country regarding sustainability. He listened carefully and was encouraging. I provided him with information regarding my first educational event, The Green Faire, in Stamford, CT and he offered to help promote and support the event with AmericanTowns.com promotional tools. Because of our mutual interest in community and sustainability, we stayed in touch, and met from time to time, over the next three years.

Towards the end of 2010, AmericanTowns made the decision to create GreenTowns, a national network to support local, green initiatives and connect people around sustainability efforts in 15,000 communities. It was a dream come true, when I was asked to become the director of GreenTowns, and lead this important, national effort. It has been a privilege, and an amazing experience to work with the very talented and gifted AmericanTowns.com team. GreenTowns has the potential to unify the country around local green initiatives, support a true, sustainable paradigm shift, and help to support our country's path towards resiliency.
