Stephanie Riefe, Patch Staff
- Simsbury, CT
I have lived in Simsbury with my husband, Karl Lund, since 2007. I grew up in Farmington and attended the University of Connecticut. I got my start in journalism more than 20 years ago at the Simsbury News. My most recent position was with Life Publications.
Along the way I have also worked at The Hartford Courant, The Commercial Record and The Hartford Business Journal.
Beliefs
At Patch, we promise always to report the facts as objectively as possible and otherwise adhere to the principles of good journalism. However, we also acknowledge that true impartiality is impossible because human beings have beliefs. So in the spirit of simple honesty, our policy is to encourage our editors to reveal their beliefs to the extent they feel comfortable. This disclosure is not a license to inject beliefs into stories or to dictate coverage according to them. In fact, the intent is the opposite: we hope that the knowledge that our beliefs are on the record will cause us to be ever mindful to write, report and edit in a fair, balanced way. And if you ever see evidence that we failed in this mission, please let us know.
Politics

I'm registered as an independent, but I lean toward people that I believe are inclusive in their politics. In the 2008 election I had a Barack Obama sign in my yard — the first time I ever had a sign for any candidate ever.
Religion

Though I was raised in a United Church of Christ, Congregational Church, I am not currently a member of a church. I work on my spirituality and I think that transcends any specific religion.
Local Hot-Button Issues

The budget — both the town and school side — will continue to be a topic of great concern to residents in these tough times, and so will its effect on taxes. Development is also something of interest to residents, and maintaining the beauty of the town.
